The Tasmanian devil carries a presence that is both fierce and deeply vulnerable. In this portrait, I wanted to move beyond reputation and noise, and instead reveal the quiet intelligence within the animal’s gaze.
Working in coloured pencil allows for patience. Layer upon layer builds depth — much like the resilience of the species itself. The textures of fur, the weight of shadow, and the stillness in the eyes are all approached slowly and deliberately.
Living in rural Tasmania, I am continually aware that these animals exist not as symbols, but as neighbours. Their survival depends on habitat protection, careful land stewardship, and collective responsibility.
This artwork is both homage and reminder — a reflection of strength under threat, and of the wildness that still endures.
Each print in this limited edition has been hand-signed and numbered.
It is offered with respect for the species and for the collectors who choose to hold this story.
